ASCEND MAGAZINE
What was my role on Ascend? My role was design editor where I led a small team of designers. During winter term, I scheduled bi-weekly meetings, led critiques and gave feedback on design spreads, and collaborated on different ideas with the team. The building process strengthened my communication skills in a team environment and improved my ability to receive constructive criticism. My main job as design editor was assembling the magazine’s master file. Halfway into spring term, I compiled all the final drafts for the master file: writing pieces, designs, and photos. I pulled an all-nighter in Allen Hall, (the SOJC) working 30 hours straight on the InDesign file, diligently putting each and every piece of the magazine together.
What I learned over 9 months: I learned about the publication process in depth; designed multiple iterations of stories, saw behind the scenes at printing services and helped build an Instagram account for our magazine. My favorite experience was signing off the proof sheet to officially send Ascend to print!
Other contributions: ran Ascend’s Instagram account, created the website, and oversaw the printing process.
