GDES 132  Project 03 —  Type Explorations

Project Overview — Build typographic layouts applying Basel-inspired discipline across four design challenges over 2 weeks. The design challenges are focused around focal point, order, negative space, scale/surprise, balance, and details.

Project Reflection — The contrast between Day One and Day Four strongly demonstrate how this project challenged and strengthened my abilities as a designer. The first week of this project when limited to 1 weight and 1-2 point sizes, allowed me to outside of the box and try layouts I might’ve not thought to do before. Day three and four were great experiemental parts of this project to implement typographic skills I’ve wanted to try.

Software used — Adobe Illustrator

DAY ONE: One weight, one point size

DAY TWO: Hierarchy & Contrast; One weight, two point sizes

DAY THREE: Complex Hierarchy; Two weights, two point sizes

DAY FOUR: Experimental; Any weight, any point size (optional: one color)
