ABOUT:After the adrenaline rush of creating Ascend, I wanted to create something entirely on my own timeline and with complete creative freedom. For my first edition, I turned the graduation trip with my friend into a commemorative magazine. I filled ~40 with anecdotes, mini itineraries, and a reflection of the trip crafted in a travel journal style. Not only was this an opportunity to use my new design experience, but also a way to refine my writing skills. I wanted to make sure the copy throughout the magazine was satisfactory for other eyes to read so I enlisted my experienced copy—editor friend, Sophie Fowler. I met Sophie while working on Ascend together, where she served as a writer. I’m looking forward to working on this project with her, even if we’re doing it over Facetime and comments on a Google doc.
TIMELINE:
The first draft was written at the end of July, with all the details laid out over a few pages. I split up my word doc into three sections; the introduction/”letter from the editor,” the middle of the book copy, and back of book copy which includes my reflection. This part of the process took me about a month to get everything written down.

End of August: I started building an outline and jotted down ideas I want to include in the magazine, a moodboard and a list of any design elements that’ll be hand-drawn. Towards the middle of September, I will have the second draft ready for the writing portion and slowly build out the design layouts.

Coming soon..... (See the process on my Instagram)
